Department of

Chemical Engineering

Designing molecular technology for the 21st century with biology and chemistry

Corporate Partners

The Department of Chemical Engineering has a long history of outstanding interactions with corporate sponsors in the chemical, pharmaceutical, and energy-related industries.

This past year, more than 100 companies came to Penn State to recruit our students for full-time, coop, and summer intern positions (see complete list under Employment Data).

In 2006, the Department received a $2,000,000 gift from The Dow Chemical Company to support innovative research and teaching activities in Chemical Engineering through the establishment of The Dow Chemical Company and Larry Duda Excellence in Chemical Engineering Fund -- this is the largest corporate endowment ever received at Penn State.

The Department is also actively involved with the Learning Factory, a program that provides undergraduates an opportunity to work on multidisciplinary industry-sponsored design projects.

Contract Research

Did you know that with almost $105 million in industry-sponsored research in FY 2008, Penn State ranks 3rd nationally in this category among universities?

With more than 2,500 science and technology-based researchers at Penn State, the Industrial Research Office is available to help companies identify faculty members with the expertise to meet their research needs.
