Davood Pourkargar and Antonios Armaou win the
2014 O. Hugo Schuck Best Paper award

Graduate student Davood Babaei Pourkargar and faculty member Antonios Armaou win the 2014 O. Hugo Schuck Best Paper award from the American Automatic Control Council for their paper titled, "Control of dissipative partial differential equation systems using APOD based dynamic observer designs." The Hugo Schuck Award is given to recognize the best two papers presented at the previous American Control Conference (ACC). As part of this award Davood will receive $2000.

One award is for a paper emphasizing contributions to theory and the other emphasizing significant or innovative applications. Criteria for selection include the quality of the written and oral presentation, the technical contribution, timeliness, and practicality. Davood and Dr. Armaou received the award for their paper emphasizing significant or innovative applications.

The American Automatic Control Council (AACC) hosts the annual, 3-day, interdisciplinary American Control Conference (ACC) with about 1,100 participants and over 900 refereed papers.

The AACC is an association of the control systems divisions of eight member societies to represent the United States to the world control community and to support the mission of the individual member societies in enhancing the role and contributions of automation to the benefit of humankind.

Individual member societies include:

  • American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA).
  • American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE).
  • American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).
  • American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME).
  • Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
  • International Society of Automation (ISA).
  • Society for Computer Simulation (SCS).
  • Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM).

Davood Babaei Pourkargar wins the Society of
Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) student travel award

Graduate student Davood Babaei Pourkargar of the Antonios Armaou research group wins the Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) student travel award.

The travel award is in the amount $650 plus gratis registration will help Davood to attend the SIAM Annual Meeting (AN14) to be held July 7-11, 2014, in Chicago, IL.

2014 American Control Conference student travel award

Congratulations to graduate student Davood Babaei Pourkargar of the Antonios Armaou Research Group who won the American Automatic Control Council (AACC) student travel award.

The travel award for $300 offered by the American Automatic Control Council (AACC) will help offset travel expenses for the 2014 American Control Conference (ACC) to be held in Portland, OR.
