Professor Wayne Curtis 25 Years of Service with the College of Engineering

We would like to share photos of Professor Wayne Curtis receiving his 25 Years of Service Award with the College of Engineering. The awards ceremony was held on April 16th in Kunkle Lounge on the University Park Campus.

Undergraduate student Justin Yoo wins a National Science Foundation Research Fellowship

Chemical engineering undergraduate student Justin Yoo of the Wayne Curtis Research Group wins a National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship.

For the 2014 competition, The NSF received more than 14,000 applications and only made 2,000 fellowship award offers.

Each fellowship winner will receive three years of support, including a $32,000 annual stipend, a $12,000 cost-of-education allowance for Penn State, international research and professional development opportunities and access to the Extreme Science and Engineering Discovery Environment supercomputer.

Professor Wayne Curtis to be honored for 25 years of service to Penn State

Congratulations to Professor Wayne Curtis for 25 years of service to the College of Engineering.

Dr. Curtis will officially be honored for his service at a ceremony held at 2:00 p.m. on April 16 in Kunkle Lounge.

Chemical Engineering July 2013 (PAWS) Student of the month

Sergio Florez of the Wayne Curtis Research Group received the PAWS (Prevent Accidents With Safety) Student of the Month Award for July 2013.

A nominator said, "Sergio has really stepped up and taken responsibility for laboratory safety. He has personally committed to wearing proper PPE and encourages those around him to do the same".

Sergio will receive a $25 gift card to a local business of his choice.

Congratulations Sergio.

Chemical Engineering undergraduate Taylor Maher wins $10,000

Penn State Chemical Engineering undergraduate Taylor Maher is awarded $10,000 for the Myriant Corporation Scholarship.

Myriant Corporation Scholarship for Excellence in Bio-Energy and Energy Sustainability is awarded by The Eberly College of Science to five Penn State undergraduate students pursuing a career in bioenergy or energy sustainability.

Taylor is a member of the Wayne Curtis Research Group and we wish in the best of luck in future endeavors.

Sydney Shaw wins first place in the Student Presentation
Competition at the 2012 World Congress on In Vitro Biology

We are pleased to announce that chemical engineering undergraduate student Sydney Shaw (of the Wayne Curtis Research Group) won 1st place at the Student Oral Presentation Competition held during the 2012 World Congress on In Vitro Biology, Bellevue, Washington, June 4, 2012.

Sydney's talk was entitled: An Improved Temporary Immersion Bioreactor Design for Plant Tissue Culture Propagation.

There were 5 presentations chosen from over 20 abstracts submitted, and Sydney was the only undergraduate selected for the competition.

Curtis Lab presents technology developments at ARPA-E Energy Innovation Summit

Dr. Wayne Curtis attended the third annual ARPA-E Energy Innovation Summit held in Washington D.C from February 27 - 29, 2012.

The event is designed to bring together key players (researchers, entrepreneurs, investors, corporate executives, and government officials) from across the energy ecosystem to share ideas for developing and deploying the next generation of energy technologies.

The summit includes a technology showcase, highlighting the recent ARPA-E award winners, finalists, and other exciting transformational technologies. The showcase featured companies and research organizations that are transforming our energy economy.
