Gomez attends White House celebration for Materials Genome Initiative

Enrique Gomez, associate professor of chemical engineering, was recently invited to attend the White House celebration of the Materials Genome Initiative (MGI) 5-year anniversary.
Announced in 2011 by President Barack Obama, the MGI aims to transform how materials are designed, discovered and implemented in new products by encouraging the integration of experiment, theory and simulations.
The event, held on August 2, brought together senior administration officials from the White House, the Department of Defense, Department of Energy, National Institute of Standards and Technology and the National Science Foundation with leaders from industry, academia and national labs to highlight accomplishments and opportunities in the design of novel materials.
Gomez’s work focuses on the molecular design of conducting polymers for flexible optoelectronics, including solar cells and transistors.
