UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Parinaz Emami, chemical engineering doctoral candidate, will present her research at the International Congress on Membranes and Membrane Processes (ICOM) conference, the largest international meeting in membrane science.
“This opportunity will allow me to exchange ideas with different people in this field and gain a broader knowledge base which will be beneficial to my future studies,” said Emami.
She was nominated to attend by her professor and former Chemical Engineering Department Chair Andrew Zydney. Zydney is a member of the Board of Directors of the North American Membrane Society (NAMS). All NAMS members are allowed to nominate one person to attend.
“I’m very excited that Parinaz will have an opportunity to present her PhD research and have the opportunity to network with leading worldwide membrane researchers, said Zydney.”
Emami’s research focuses on purification of bacterial polysaccharide vaccines, which are used against diseases such as pneumonia and meningitis. She is looking to improve the purification process of these vaccines in order to increase the cost efficiency of their production.
Emami holds a B.S. in chemical engineering from Sharif University of Technology (Tehran, Iran) and an M.S. in chemical engineering from the University of Missouri.
ICOM is held every three years and, this year, is in San Francisco, CA, from July 29 through August 4.
