Current research focuses in the lab include:
- Discovering the genetic basis of biofilm formation with E. coli and P. aeruginosa
- Discerning the role of toxin/antioxin systems and cryptic prophages
- Evolving biofilm regulators to control biofilm formation of biorefineries
- Evolving bidirectional hydrogenases for hydrogen production
- Understanding interkingdom cell communication
